Chicken and spinach dumplings from China Kitchen, 17B Main North Rd, Papanui

It was freezing when we picked up our package of takeaway dumplings. Layered in a plastic container, the presentation is minimalist. Spicy soy sauce is served on the side. The dumplings themselves are huge, about twice the usual size of dumplings. Lightly fried and stuffed with a chicken and spinach mixture, they are delicious. The pastry is a little on the thick side, but the texture and flavours compensate for this. The generous dipping sauce allows all to be dunked. A real winter treat and only $7 for six.
